Playing with matches causes house fire

A 12-year-old Westminster boy playing with matches set a fire in a duplex in the first block of Washington St. Sunday, state fire marshals said.

The fire began in the attic of the two-story converted single-family home about 3: 45 p.m. and was out by the time 25 volunteer firefighters from Westminster arrived.

The damage was estimated at $100. The boy was released to his mother's custody, fire marshals said.

Police

Westminster: A resident of Eagles Court told city police that someone entered his apartment and stole personal property sometime before 5 p.m. Friday. The loss was estimated at $2,570.

Westminster: A resident of Senorita Court told city police that someone broke the side mirror on her vehicle Friday morning while it was parked at Cranberry Mall. Damage was estimated at $200.

Westminster: A resident of Mayberry Road told city police that someone stole an aluminum break from a job site on North Church Street on Friday morning. The loss was estimated at $900.

Westminster: A resident of Ridge Road told city police that someone broke into his vehicle and stole property between 12: 30 p.m. and 4: 20 p.m. Sunday while it was parked at Cranberry Mall. The loss was estimated at $710.

Fire

Westminster: Firefighters responded at 11: 34 a.m. Friday for a brush fire on Tannery Road. Units were out 29 minutes.

Westminster: Firefighters responded at 10: 09 p.m. to investigate a report of smoke on Western Chapel Road. Units were out 40 minutes.

Reese: Firefighters from Gamber assisted Reese at 10: 29 p.m. Friday, responding for smoke in a basement in the 2100 block of Brookmead Court. Units were out 45 minutes.

Reese: Firefighters from Hampstead assisted Reese at 9: 57 a.m. Saturday at a house fire in the 300 block of Dutrow Road. Units were out 32 minutes.

Westminster: Firefighters from Reese, Pleasant Valley and Manchester assisted Westminster at 3: 45 p.m. Sunday at a building fire in the first block of Washington Road. Units were out 38 minutes.

Westminster: Firefighters from Reese assisted Westminster at 5: 53 p.m. Sunday, responding for a fire alarm in the first block of Locust St. Units were out 26 minutes.

Reese: Firefighters responded at 6: 03 p.m. Sunday for a tree fire on Route 140 at Sandymount Road. Units were out 24 minutes.

Westminster: Firefighters from Reese, Pleasant Valley and Manchester assisted Westminster at 6: 44 p.m. Sunday, responding for a building fire in the 400 block of Western Maryland College Drive. Units were out 24 minutes.

Westminster: Firefighters responded at 8: 02 p.m. Sunday for an automobile fire on North Cranberry Road. Units were out 15 minutes.
