County police arrested an Annapolis man Sunday on charges of breaking into the home of a Severn woman, attacking her, damaging property and stealing a $300 diamond bracelet.

Kevin Maurice Makell, 28, of the 1100 block of Eastport Terrace was charged with assault and battery and burglary. Police said a man broke the door and door frame to get into a townhouse in the 1900 block of Arwell Court shortly before 1 a.m. and began arguing with Kisha R. Booze, 20, of that address.

The man pushed her onto a bed and tried to punch her in the face, then threw a videocassette recorder down a flight of stairs, stole a 1-carat-diamond tennis bracelet and left, police said.

Gambrills man charged with drug possession

County police arrested a Gambrills man Friday on drug charges after a fire marshal stopped him for drag racing and police found 30 grams of what later tested positive for marijuana under the driver's seat of his car.

Robert S. Starkey, 19, of the 2100 block of Hallmark Drive was charged with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lt. David Bond of the Anne Arundel County fire marshal's office stopped two cars shortly before 3 a.m. on Mount Tabor Road near Underwood Road because they were driving recklessly in what appeared to be a drag race, police said.

Bond was on Mount Tabor Road investigating an arson to a Jeep that began shortly before 2 a.m. and caused $1,500 worth of damage, according to a fire department spokesman.

After he stopped the cars, he called county police to get an officer to search the cars, police said.

When Officer Daniel A. Sereboff arrived, he talked to the first man and smelled marijuana when the man opened the door of the 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse. He also saw five bottles of beer on the rear seat and asked to search the car.

Sereboff found marijuana under the driver's seat and a pipe lying next to the beer bottles on the back seat and arrested the man. The other driver was not arrested.
