Henderson pleased to be Bullet

June 30, 1996

Chosen four picks from the end of the NBA draft, Ronnie Henderson was just happy to be a Washington Bullet yesterday.

"At one point, I didn't think I'd be picked," Henderson, a two-time Southeastern Conference scoring champion at Louisiana State, said after a brief workout in Bowie.

Henderson has no idea why his stock dropped so much. After the draft, general manager Wes Unseld said it may have fallen because of a rumored alcohol problem. The next day, Unseld retracted that.

"Naturally you get upset when you're projected to go higher," said Henderson, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard. "But I look at it as a lot of guys didn't get drafted, so God blessed me."
