Security concerns: Three weeks before the start of the Games, security remains the biggest concern, U.S. Olympic Committee president LeRoy T. Walker says. "The biggest budget we have is for security, and we still don't know if it will work," he said. He acknowledged that the bombing of a U.S. military facility in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday has heightened the emphasis on security.

Injured runner: Bob Kempainen, the top American qualifier for the marathon, will decide July 12 whether severe knee pain will keep him from competing. Kempainen is suffering from inflamed bands of tendons connecting his hips to the knees.
