DeMont sues: Swimmer Rick DeMont is suing the U.S. Olympic Committee to clear his name and win back the gold medal he was stripped of at the 1972 Games. He charges breach of duty, negligence and libel in a suit that alleges U.S. officials knew he was taking a prescribed asthma medication Marax, which included the banned substance ephedrine, but failed to support his contention to the International Olympic Committee that the drug was strictly for his medical condition.

Fence-building: The U.S. Fencing Association named Anthony Leach, Aladar Kogler and Zoran Tulum Olympic coaches, Carl Oberg armorer, Carl Borack team captain and Sherry Posthumus team leader.
