Man robs, tries to rape woman on jogging trail

A man robbed and attempted to rape a Laurel woman jogging on the Brockbridge Fitness Trail yesterday morning, county police said.

The victim told that police she was running on the trail south of River Ridge Road just after 6 a.m. when she came upon the man. She said the man, who had a black scarf covering his face, pushed her to the ground and said, "Let me have those rings, and I'll let you go."

As the victim began to comply, the suspect pulled down her pants as well as his own. Handing her rings over to the man, the woman began to scream and cry. The man got up and ran north on the trail, toward Brockridge Elementary School, police said.

Baltimore man charged in battery, attempted rape

Police arrested a Baltimore man Tuesday and charged him with breaking into a Severn woman's home and trying to rape her, county police said.

Carlito Doniel Rollins, 24, of the 3800 block of Songbird Circle was charged with breaking and entering, attempted rape, attempted sex offense, theft and battery.

The woman, 21, suffered several bruises in the attack. She was treated at North Arundel Hospital and released.

Hospital officials called police around 11 p.m. for a woman who had been raped. The woman told police an acquaintance came to her home around 9: 30 p.m. and tried to have sex with her. He then took a cordless telephone and a pager and left the house, police said.

The woman gave police the man's name and address and officers arrested the suspect at his home without incident.

Purse snatching reported at Defense Highway center

A 35-year-old Crofton woman was the victim of a purse snatching Wednesday at a local shopping center, county police said.

Mary Ellen Overmier of the 1600 block of Earlham Ave. told police that she was standing at the counter of TCBY in the 2200 block of Defense Highway, waiting to place her order when a man grabbed her purse from her shoulder. The man, who had been standing next to her, ran from the store with another man sitting near the counter, police said.

Both men ran to the rear of the shopping center, but police were unable to find them.
