A Jessup man was seriously injured Tuesday when his motorcycle struck a car broadside and he and a female passenger flipped over the vehicle, county police said.

Shawn Robert Paris, 21, of the 7800 block of Clark Road in Jessup suffered head injuries in the collision and was in critical condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center yesterday.

The unidentified juvenile passenger was treated at North Arundel Hospital for a knee injury and released.

Police said Paris was westbound on Quarterfield Road about 8 p.m. when a 1993 Chevrolet Corsica, driven by Andrew Brinton Jacks, 19, of the 1600 block of Isabella Court in Millersville turned left onto eastbound Quarterfield Road from the parking lot of the Chesapeake Medical Center.

Police said Paris tried to avoid the accident, but his Kawasaki motorcycle struck the Corsica at the driver's side rear passenger door, sending Paris and the passenger over the car and onto the pavement.

Charges against the drivers are pending police investigation.
