Baltimore County police are searching for two men who assaulted an off-duty officer while he was working yesterday as a security guard at a shopping center.

Officer Jeffrey M. Zorn, 33, a nine-year veteran, was working at a shopping center in the 200 block of North Point Blvd. about 4 p.m. when he saw a man pulling boxes of Tylenol from his pants as he was walking to a truck with two other men inside, police said.

Zorn went to the truck, identified himself and was talking to the men when the driver pulled off, dragging the officer 100 feet, police said. Zaun, who suffered minor bruises, drew his off-duty weapon and fired one shot through the rear window of the truck.

Police arrested Lawrence M. Skoczynski, 34, of the 600 block of Lucabaugh Mill Road in Westminster at the scene and charged him with petty theft in the alleged shoplifting.

Police were seeking two men in a copper-colored pickup truck with Maryland tags 341458.
