Woman injured when car is slammed by trash truck

A state health department employee was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center yesterday morning after a trash truck struck her car on Francis Scott Key Highway (Route 194) near the Keymar Airport, Maryland State Police at the Westminster barracks said.

Patricia Ruth Sacco, 52, of Bel Air, was in serious but stable condition last night.

Jack Lust, 41, of Kearneyville, W. Va., a driver for Laidlaw Waste Systems of Gaithersburg, was not injured, according to the police. He was issued a citation in the collision.

Both vehicles were northbound about 10 a.m. The 1990 Mack truck pulled into the southbound lane to pass, as Sacco began a left turn into a driveway in the 1600 block of Francis Scott Key Highway, police said.

The truck then pushed her 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier off the left side of the road.
