Man is arrested on burglary charges

June 25, 1996

County police arrested a man and charged him with trying to steal a lawn mower from the warehouse of a Harmans floor company Sunday morning.

Ernest Darren Sewell, 30, of no fixed address, was charged with second- and fourth-degree burglary.

Western District Officer Lavell Deraze Craven responded to a holdup alarm at Irvine Access Floors Inc. in the 1200 block of Old Dorsey Road about 10 a.m. An employee told the officer that a man had walked into the warehouse about 9: 30 a.m. and asked for directions.

About 30 minutes later, the employee said, the same man returned and pulled a lawn mower worth $250 toward the door. When the employee confronted the man, he ran out of the building and rode away on a pink-and-gray Western Flyer bicycle.

Officer David Smith Murphy stopped the man in the 7800 block of New Ridge Road. The employee identified the man, who was arrested.
