Thunder shrugs off rain, Baysox, 3-1 Minor Leagues

BOWIE -- Torrential rain got a share of the save last night for the Trenton Thunder. In a bizarre finish, a driving rainstorm hit Prince George's Stadium one out short of a complete game before Trenton hung on to beat the Bowie Baysox, 3-1, in their Eastern League matchup.

Thunder starter Carl Pavano carried a one-hitter and a 3-0 lead into the ninth inning when Keith Gordon homered with one out.

Pavano was replaced by Tom McGraw, who got the second out, but also walked the bases loaded.

Then, Willis Otanez was announced as a pinch-hitter for Bowie and Trenton manager Ken Macha replaced McGraw with Mike Blais on the mound.

Before Blais could throw a pitch, the stadium was inundated, forcing the game to be halted for 1 hour, 15 minutes.

When play resumed, Blais retired Otanez on a weak bouncer to the mound to end the game.

Andy Abad led the Thunder's offense with a two-run homer off loser Shane Hale (2-9).
