A robber's gun discharged as he bent down to collect money during a holdup at a pizza restaurant in Columbia Sunday, but no one was injured, Howard County police said.

The man had approached an employee outside the closed Pizza Hut in the 7600 block of Minstrel Way in Columbia's Owen Brown village at 12: 09 a.m. Sunday.

He forced the worker, who had been emptying trash, inside the restaurant, where the manager was counting money.

The manager was ordered to the floor. As the robber rushed to grab the money, his gun fired. One round struck only the floor, police said.

The robber then ran from the store with an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

The victims were unable to give police a detailed description of the gunman, who had covered his face, police said.
