Doug Kent won four consecutive matches to climb the ladder en route to the title at the 1996 Greater Detroit Open in Allen Park, Mich. He averaged 247.25.
High schools: Christy Nichols of Arundel High completed her high school career by winning the two-mile run in a record 10: 16 at the National Scholastic Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Raleigh, N.C. It was the third national championship in a distance event this year for Nichols, the 1996 All-Metro Girls Performer of the Year.
