READY, SET, READ! The Summer Reading Program at the Brooklyn Park Library, 1 E. 11th Ave., begins tomorrow for children entering kindergarten through sixth grade in the fall.

Fill out a registration form and pick up your Summer Reading Starter Kit, then visit the library each week for new books and activities and mark your calendar for special Summer Reading Program events.

Everyone who registers will receive a free pass to the Baltimore Zoo (while supplies last) and be eligible to win free passes to Adventure World, Apex Cinemas, the Babe Ruth Museum and the Chesapeake Children's Museum.

At 10 a.m. Wednesday there will be a Library Olympics. Take part in an egg toss, paperback relay and tug of war.

Sixth-grade awards

Brooklyn Park Elementary School news: Congratulations to the students who received special recognition at the recent sixth-grade promotion exercises.

Willard E. Tignor Helping Hand Award: Laura Whitlock, first place; Amanda Schrader, second place; Monica Good, third place.

The Rev. Salters Burgess Humanitarian Award: Brielle Jones, first place, Kevin Hammock, second place; Jennifer Taylor, third place.

Marvin S. Greenburg Good Citizenship Award: Lauren Murphy, first place; Melissa Olds, second place; Robert Taylor, third place.

George E. Surgeon Scholastic Achievement Award: Carrie Clevinger, first place; Serena Woods, second place; Crystal Lucas and Heather Frye, third place.

K? School office hours for the summer will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Soccer registration

It's soccer time. Brooklyn Park Youth Athletic Association invites boys and girls ages 5 to 15 to participate in intramural and travel soccer.

Registration will take place June 12 to 20 at the Sugar Shack at the 10th Avenue ball fields.

Fees are $30 for one child, $50 for two children and $5 for each additional child. Travel team fees are $40 per child. A concession fee of $10 also will be collected at the time of registration.

Democratic anniversary

Tickets are on sale for the Roland Terrace Democratic Club 23rd anniversary party from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. June 23. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
