Moylan shoots 70 in qualifying

Tim Moylan, from the Country Club of Woodmore, posted a 1-under-par 70 for the only subpar score in a field of 124 during the final qualifying round for the 75th annual men's amateur championship of the Maryland State Golf Association at the Elkridge Club yesterday. There was a playoff at 75 for the final places in the 32-man match-play draw, which begins this morning.

Moylan was followed by three players at 71 -- 1994 champion Chuck Freedman, of Hobbit's Glen; 1995 quarterfinalist Mike Watson, from Lakewood CC; and two-time titlist (1969, 1971) Dave King, of Bethesda, who played for the medal, then withdrew.
