Give Dad the gift of grill

If your dad owns an apron, an oven mitt and one of those long barbecue forks, he might get a kick out of a Father's Day gift of "Patio Daddy-O: '50s Recipes With a '90s Twist," by Gideon Bosker, Karen Brooks, and Leland and Crystal Peyton (Chronicle Books, $12.95). Recipes range from Mondo bongo BBQ chicken to Dr. Bosker's boogie-woogie brown-sugared barbecued bananas. It's hep, cat.

Farmers' market news

Good news for farmers' market fans in the Owings Milla area: The New Town Farmer's Market, scheduled to be closed because of construction, will instead be moved to the Owings Mills mall's auxiliary parking lot (between Macy's and the Conservatory). The renamed Owings Mills Farmers Market open June 18, and will be open Tuesdays until Sept. 24 from noon to 6 p.m. with locally grown fruit, vegetables and flowers.
