FCA Summer Camps

June 09, 1996|By Tim Warren

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes likes to call its summer camps "a time of perspiration and inspiration." Says Kevin Harlan, the national director of programs: "[The camps] are a key item for us -- they help us recruit new members and energize current ones."

He adds that more than 13,000 people attend these camps each summer -- mostly high school students, but also junior high and college students. There are even camps for adults. For instance, Sandy Cove in the town of North East, Cecil County, is the site of a coaches' camp June 23-25. The program is open to single or married coaches and their families.

Camps are offered in a number of sports for both boys and girls (a few are coeducational), and there is a Leadership Camp for athletes and huddle sponsors. Prices range from $200-$300 for weekly camps. There are also one-day summer programs and some camps that take place over a long weekend. For registration information, call (800) 289-0909.
