Kraus, Winchester win Metro semis

Andrea Kraus and Joan Winchester, who have combined for 10 Women's Metro golf championships, took opposite routes in gaining semifinal victories in the 64th tournament at Maryland Golf and Country Club yesterday.

The winners sidetracked the two youngest players in the championship draw, collegians Kristin Dollenberg and Jenny Chuasiriporn.

Kraus stopped Dollenberg, 6 and 5, and Winchester repeated her quarterfinal script in thwarting medalist Chuasiriporn in 19 holes.

Woodholme Country Club member Kraus turned 2-up in her match, then won four straight holes, the last two on birdie putts of 12 feet and eight feet. For a second straight day, Winchester built a 3-up margin midway through the back nine, then had to survive a playoff to advance.

The championship and eight other flights will be decided this morning at Cattail Creek Country Club.
