Rangers: Released IF Jeff Frye from Triple-A Oklahoma City so he could sign major-league contract with Red Sox.
Reds: Recalled P Kevin Jarvis from Triple-A Indianapolis. Optioned P Eduardo Perez to Indianapolis.
Royals: Signed 1996 draft picks: C Jeremy Hill, OF Brandon Berger and SS Eric Sees.
Mariners: Signed P Duff Brumley to contract with Double-A Port City. Reassigned P Trey Moore to Single-A Lancaster. Recalled OF Alex Diaz from Triple-A Tacoma and placed him on 60-day DL. Announced P Bobby Ayala will be sent to Single-A Wilmington for rehabilitation assignment.
White Sox: Reinstated IF Norberto Martin from 60-day DL. Transferred P Jason Bere from 15-day DL to 60-day DL.
Basketball
NBA: Announced Seattle SuperSonics and Indiana Pacers will play exhibition games Oct. 18 in Berlin and Oct. 20 in Seville, Spain.

Southeastern Conference: Approved medical hardship status for Kentucky senior F Jared Prickett for last season, giving him additional year of eligibility.
Delaware State: Announced contracts of men's basketball coach Fred Goodman and women's track and field coach Rickey Meekins will not be renewed.
Georgia Tech: Hired Candy Cage as assistant women's basketball coach. Cage had been a Mount St. Mary's assistant for five years.
