The owner of a Ferndale bar whose establishment had been burglarized three times in a week lay in wait for several hours Tuesday night to catch a suspect, county police said yesterday.

Michael Raymond Stewart, 18, of the unit block of Glenmont Ave. in Ferndale, was charged with burglary. He suffered a cut to the back of his head in a struggle with the bar owner and was treated at Harbor Hospital and released, police said.

Dennis Mark Rogers Jr., owner of Ashley's Tavern in the 7200 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. in Ferndale told police his business had been robbed each night from Saturday to Monday. The thief got away with $700.

Each of those mornings, Rogers opened the tavern to find that money that had been left there the night before had been stolen, but there was no sign of a break-in, police said.

Tuesday, Rogers decided to stay inside the tavern after hours, police said.

Shortly after 5: 30 a.m., he heard the back door open and saw a man he recognized as a former employee, police said. Rogers confronted the man, struggled with him, and held him for police, police said.
