On the waterfront

Tall ships, arts and crafts, children's activities, live entertainment, scrumptious food and spectacular fireworks are part of the 15th Annual Waterfront Festival tomorrow through Sunday at the Oronoco Bay Park along the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria, Va. Proceeds from the outdoor fund-raising event benefit the American Red Cross.

Scheduled to perform Friday in an evening of country music are Lari White and Ty Herndon. Saturday, it's rock and roll by local bands throughout the afternoon, and Deep Blue Something will headline the evening performance.

Festival hours are 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday; admission is $8. Saturday, admission is $5 for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and $8 for 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Sunday, admission is $5 for 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Children 6 to 12 are admitted for $1 at all times. Call (703) 549-8300.

Shrimp festival

Free "Music in the Park" kicks off the Second Annual Chincoteague Homestyle Music and Shrimp Festival at 6 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park on the east side of the island.

Then it's arts and crafts, decoy displays, children's activities, music and all the shrimp, pit beef and trimmings you can eat Saturday at the Chincoteague Carnival Grounds. A bluegrass concert and dancing under the stars are planned for Saturday evening.

The festival begins at 6 p.m. Friday and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with the concert at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children. Call (804) 336-6161.
