Honors: The Astros' Jeff Bagwell, who hit .360 with 36 hits in 100 at-bats with 10 home runs and 31 RBIs, was named NL Player of the Month. The Braves' John Smoltz, who won all six starts in May and struck out 46 in 41 2/3 innings, was named NL Pitcher of the Month. Smoltz was also Pitcher of the Month in April, when he was 5-1. The Braves' Fred McGriff, who batted .524 (11-for-21) with three homers and five RBIs, was named NL Player of the Week.

Brewers: Center fielder Chuck Carr began his rehabilitation on his reconstructed right knee, which he injured while making a leaping catch last week. Doctors say Carr will be out up to 12 months but they expect a full recovery.

Cubs: Chicago has committed a league-low 30 errors and has 33 errorless games out of 56 this season.

Giants: The eight-game homer slump was the team's longest of the season.

Phillies: Philadelphia hasn't won a game at Wrigley Field since June 2, 1994. . . . Curt Schilling is winless in eight appearances at Wrigley Field, where he is 0-2 lifetime.

Pirates: Danny Darwin, who starts tonight in Los Angeles, is 0-4 with a 4.09 ERA since beating Philadelphia on April 22.
