Ripken honored

Orioles shortstop Cal Ripken won the American League Player of the Week award yesterday.

Ripken had his first three-homer game, including his fifth career grand slam and a career-high eight RBIs, against Seattle on May 28.

For the week, he hit five home runs and drove in 14 runs, both league highs. He hit .550, scored 12 runs and led the league in total bases with 26 and slugging percentage with 1.300.
