Tigers update: Detroit (13-43) could threaten the 1962 New York Mets (40-120) as the worst team in major-league history. The Tigers began the season 8-7 but are 5-36 since. With a 7.00 ERA, the pitching staff is on a pace to set a record for the highest single-season ERA in baseball history. They also have served up 94 home runs. Rookie Justin Thompson (2.03 ERA) was brilliant in two starts after being recalled from Triple-A, but he will not pitch in this series. Former Oriole Richie Lewis (3.34 ERA), who has been Detroit's most consistent pitcher but has lost four of five decisions, is pitching out of the bullpen. Detroit's team batting average is .245, and only Mark Lewis (.306) is above .300.
