A 25-year-old Frederick man has been charged with attempting to abduct a 14-year-old girl in Mount Airy on Thursday.

Jonathan Phillip Monroe of the 1300 block of Butterfly Lane, who was apprehended Sunday at his home, was taken to the Westminster state police barracks. After being questioned, he was charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, and assault and battery, police said.

Yesterday, Monroe was being held at the Carroll County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.

According to police, the man told them he just wanted to talk to someone when he stopped his car on Route 27 about 6 p.m. Thursday and approached a girl walking on the ramp to Interstate 70.

Witnesses told police a man dragged a girl across the ramp, and that she fell. When motorists stopped to assist her, the man ran into the woods. A search by police using dogs and a helicopter Thursday evening failed to locate the man.
