June 03, 1996|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

Craig Carson and Bob Young, a pair of 42-year-olds from suburban Atlanta, played solidly in the middle 14 holes of their shotgun start, and held on for a one-stroke victory yesterday in the sixth annual Chesapeake Cup at Caves Valley Golf Club.

Two teams in the 22-team championship flight finished one stroke off the pace after surrendering shots on their last two holes in the two-man aggregate format. Tim Jackson-Ed Gibstein went 2-over par on their last two holes, and defenders Jerry Courville-Joe Sommers went 5-over.

Tom Graham and Mark Mulvoy won the 12-team Senior division with a three-day better-ball total of 209, four shots clear of their closest pursuers.
