Thunderstorms stop games, scramble state playoff schedule

Last night's rain and lightning caused the postponement of three state baseball semifinals involving area teams and the suspension of two state softball semifinals at Randazzo Park involving area teams. Another softball playoff was postponed.

In baseball, the Class 4A semifinal featuring No. 1 Arundel against Roosevelt will be played at 7 p.m. tonight at the University of Maryland's Shipley Field. The winner meets Wootton Friday at 7 p.m. at Joe Cannon Stadium in the championship game.

In Class 3A baseball, Atholton and Westlake will meet at 7 p.m. tonight at Joe Cannon in the semifinal with the winner meeting Bel Air at Joe Cannon Saturday at 7: 30 p.m.

In Class 2A baseball, Northeast and Glenelg will meet today at 4 p.m. at Arundel with the winner meeting South Hagerstown in the championship game Saturday at 3: 30 p.m.

In Class 3A softball McDonough's Clarisa Crowell has a perfect game through four innings. McDonough leads Howard 6-0 with McDonough batting in the top of the fifth with two outs. The game will resume at 4: 30 p.m. today at Randazzo.

In the other Class 3A softball semifinal Franklin and Thomas Johnson are scoreless with two out in the bottom of the third. The game will resume at 4: 30 today.

In Class 4A softball Perry Hall and Watkins Mills did not get to start their 8 p.m. game and are scheduled to play at 6 p.m. today.
