Harford County rivals C. Milton Wright and Fallston used punishing offenses to destroy teams all season, but in head-to-head meetings, it was all Wright.

The No. 7 Mustangs combined their usual offense, including eight straight goals at one stretch, with solid defense to overwhelm homestanding Fallston, 20-11, in their 3A-4A North regional championship game yesterday. In a regular-season meeting, Wright had won, 12-7.

The victory sends Wright (12-1) to the state semifinals at Catonsville Community College tomorrow (3 p.m.), where it will play Mount Hebron.

C. Milton Wright set the tempo against the Cougars, simply running them into the ground right from the start.

It scored the first four goals in less than six minutes, and made it 7-3, before the Cougars closed to within 7-6.

It turned out to be a short-lived burst, however, as the visitors got three goals before halftime, and the first five of the second half to put the game away.

For Wright, seniors Becky Gerhart, Amanda Moculski, and Miranda James combined for 16 goals and six assists.

Senior Courtney Benner had three goals and three assists for Fallston.

"When they got within a goal, the pressure was tough, and I knew I had to step up and play harder," said Wright's senior goalkeeper Jen McHugh. "Then I made a couple of stops and that helped."

The defense in front also made McHugh's job easier.

"Emily Steinmetz has been the leader of our defense; she's always there for me," the goalkeeper said.

"Emily runs the show, but Annie Sappington is very good. She's our unsung hero," said Wright coach Kathy Breymaier.

Loch Raven 17, North Harford 14: Loch Raven, ahead 7-5 at halftime, scored the first five goals of the second half, led 16-6 with 10 minutes left, then had to stave off a furious rally by North Harford (11-4) to win the Class 1A-2A North regional title. Carrie Winkler led the winners with seven goals, and Suzanne Eyler and Shanna Pitarra had four goals apiece to spark North Harford. Loch Raven will play Catonsville in the state semifinals at Catonsville Community College tomorrow at 8 p.m.

Catonsville 13, Glenelg 6: Meghann Mohler and Jen Ice combined for seven goals and two assists to lead the No. 15 Comets (12-4) over host Glenelg (7-7) in the Class 1A-2A West region final. Maggie Burk and Camey Brian each had three goals for Glenelg.

Towson 19, Chesapeake-BC 8: Jen Brown had three goals and three assists, Meg Stringer had three goals and two assists and Molly Fair had four goals and one assist as visiting Towson (7-7) advanced to the state semifinals by downing Chesapeake-BC in the Class 1A-2A South region final. Laura Caldwell had six goals for the Bayhawks. Towson will meet Southern-AA tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Catonsville Community College in the semifinals.

North County 13, Kenwood 5: Janice Sauble scored three goals and had two assists, Annie Macey had two goals and an assist and Dana Whitecotton had two goals as North County won the Class 3A-4A South region championship at Old Mill. Kelly Shearer had four goals for Kenwood (5-10). North County meets Annapolis at 1 p.m. in a state semifinal tomorrow at Catonsville Community College.
