White Sox update: The White Sox have what the Orioles want: good, consistent pitching. Chicago leads the American League with a 4.27 ERA, exactly a run better than the Orioles'. Closer Roberto Hernandez, who leads the White Sox with an 0.54 ERA, has nine saves and has struck out 24 in 16 2/3 innings. Chicago was second in the AL Central, 4 1/2 games behind the Cleveland Indians, through Sunday's games.

Key stats: Frank Thomas (.354, 9 HRs), Tony Phillips (.288) and Harold Baines (.276, 6 HRs) have been hot, and Robin Ventura (.205), Ozzie Guillen (.207) and Darren Lewis (.224) have not.
