Annapolis will celebrate National Safe Boating Week with a festival May 18 at City Dock.
A large-boat parade through the harbor at 10 a.m. will be followed by performances by the Annapolis High School and Naval Academy bands.
The free event will have drawings to win a small boat to be built the day of the festival and a personal watercraft that will be given away in the fall.
Demonstrations will include man-overboard rescues from Naval Academy sailing vessels, rescues by Anne Arundel County Fire Department divers, correct use of fire extinguishers and emergency flares, how to make a mayday call and other marine safety drills.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct free marine courtesy tests. Visitors will be able to tour various boats.
