Richard P. Ettinger Jr., 73, a prominent publisher whose life was transformed by Dee Brown's book "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" when it was published in 1970, died April 26 at the Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, Calif. He was so struck by Brown's account of atrocities suffered by Indians in late 19th-century America that he devoted his life to improving their lot.

Patsy Montana,87, a country music pioneer known best for her 1935 hit "I Want to be a Cowboy's Sweetheart," died of heart failure Friday in Nashville.

Charles E. Schmidt,83, a floor sweeper at a Chicago brokerage house who founded Tractor Supply Co., a farm supply chain, died of a heart attack Tuesday in Boca Raton, Fla.
