Cigarettes stolen from grocery truck

May 01, 1996

Someone stole a case of cigarettes, valued at $456, from a grocery truck that was being unloaded at an Edgewater 7-Eleven store Monday, county police said.

Millard M. Hawkins, a driver for McLane Mid-Atlantic grocery distributors, told police that he was unloading his truck about 7: 30 p.m. at the convenience store in the 3200 block of Solomons Island Road.

He left the rear of the truck open while he went to the front to look for something. When he returned, a passer-by said he had seen a man take a box, which contained 30 cartons of cigarettes, from the truck and drive away in a white car, police said.

Mr. Hawkins called police. The witness had left the store by the time officers arrived.
