A Crownsville youth was beaten and rocks thrown at his head Friday in the parking lot of a McDonald's in Crofton after he refused to let two other youths look at his car stereo, county police said yesterday.

The victim, Joseph Martin Gribbon, 16, of the 1300 block of Waterbury Road, was treated at Anne Arundel Medical Center and released.

The teen-ager told police he was at the McDonald's at Route 3 and Davidsonville Road shortly after 11 p.m. when two youths approached, saying they were interested in his stereo equipment.

The Gribbon youth said he would not open his car for the youths because he did not know them, then tried to walk away. One extended his arm, blocking the victim's path, then punched him in the face, police said.

When he fell to the ground, the youths kicked him and threw rocks at his head, police said. Two of the Gribbon youth's friends helped him get away from the youths and took him to a house, where they called police. His assailants ran away.
