A Savage man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Sunday morning after swerving from the road to avoid striking a cat, Howard County rescuers said.

Jerry Parks, 44, of the 8800 block of Howard Hills suffered severe leg and spinal injuries. He was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was in serious but stable condition yesterday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Mr. Parks was driving in the 8800 block of Baltimore St. in Savage about 9 a.m. Sunday when a cat ran into the street. He lost control of his vehicle and crashed, said Lt. Michael Baker, a spokesman for the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue.

The cat scurried away unharmed, rescuers said.
