50 years ago Yesterday, the Fort George G. Meade Separation Center, which has been in operation since May 1, 1945, discharged Staff Sgt. Byron Williams of Roanoke, Va. He is the 250,000th soldier to be discharged. -- The Sun, April 2, 1946.

The Naval Academy has announced the signing of Ben Carnevale, presently head coach of the University of North Carolina basketball team, as head coach of the middie cagers for the coming season. -- The Sun, April 13, 1946.

A fire, fought by fire companies, civilians and soldiers, including German prisoners of war, destroyed forest acreage and five houses in the Gambrills-Patuxent area of Anne Arundel County. -- The Sun, April 23, 1946.
