Opportunities for dancing bloom with advent of spring

NOW THAT SPRING has finally arrived, does it make you feel like dancing?

If so, three organizations in the neighborhood are giving you the opportunity.

The North Glen Athletic Association is having a spring dance to benefit the uniform and exchange fund and to help with new fencing for the athletic fields.

The dance is from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday at the Elks Club on Stevenson and Quarterfield roads.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. The price includes beer and setups.

St. Philip Neri

Dinner is included at the Spring Festival Dance, Saturday at St. Philip Neri School Hall, 6401 S. Orchard Road.

Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. with dancing from 8 p.m. to midnight. For $14, you will receive a platter, beer, setups, pretzels and chips.

Square dancing

The Friendship Squares Dance Club will sponsor a Red, White and Blue Dance from 8 p.m. to 10: 30 p.m. Saturday at Linthicum Elementary School, 101 School Lane Road.

The square dance group is having the red, white and blue theme as a tribute to the writing of "The Star Spangled Banner."

4 Admission is $4.50. Refreshments will be served.

PTA elections

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, before the Spring Concert, the Linthicum Elementary School PTA will have a brief general membership meeting and election of new officers.

Positions for officers of the Executive Board are still open. Nominations will be accepted up to the time of elections. Any member of the PTA is eligible.

It is not too late to join the PTA. Dues are $5. Call Susan Hrybyk, membership chairwoman at 850-4576.

Students, under the direction of music teacher Judy Jaques, band instructor Harry Cocoros and strings instructor Kathy Solano, have been practicing for the Spring Concert.

Composting talk

Composting: What is it, how do I use it, and what kind of container do I put it in?

Members of the Friendly Thyme Herb Club will learn the answers to these questions from Richard Hood, president of the club, at the 10 a.m. meeting Friday at Ferndale Senior Center.

Sue Latini will hold a planning meeting for the June 8 Herb Day at the 1840 House Museum at 9 a.m.

Crime prevention

Crime prevention for senior citizens will be the topic at the Thursday meeting of the American Association of Retired Persons No. 2244.

The board will meet at 11: 30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. Members can bring a sandwich and enjoy cake and coffee provided by the club before the 1 p.m. meeting.

County police Officer Randall Gann from the Millersville headquarters, will speak.

Gospel concert

The Jubilators Gospel Quartet of Cumberland will give two weekend performances at Ferndale United Methodist Church, 117 Ferndale Road.

At 5 p.m. Saturday, there will be a covered-dish dinner before the gospel concert. At 5 p.m. Sunday, the quartet will participate in a worship service.
