A roundup of new products and services

Preserving Pictures

If the photos you have preserved in albums aren't looking so good these days, or if you have trouble keeping track of which drawer and shoe boxes your pictures are in, Baltimorean Kater Lynn Leatherman of Creative Memories has the solution for you. She offers a wide range of "user-friendly" photo-album supplies, including acid-free paper, plastic page protectors and five different self-adhesive ways to mount pictures. And she offers a 2 1/2-hour class to teach people creative cropping techniques, interesting ways to lay out an album page and effective journal-making ideas. The class is $20. For more information, call (410) 728-2522.

Save the Day

Got a special occasion you want to commemorate? How about with a novelty newsletter? Linda Offit of Baltimore will design and custom-write a funny or sentimental newsletter for your special day -- whether it's a wedding, anniversary, birthday, graduation, bar/bat mitzvah or family reunion. The AmuseLetter costs $75 for a one-page, camera-ready original. For an additional fee, Ms. Offit will make as many copies of the newsletter as you'd like. You can also make copies yourself, of course. To order, call (410) 602-2222.

Family Matters

ApronStrings, an Ellicott City firm, has two new products designed to promote family communication. To encourage family members to share memories, dreams, opinions and even little-known information about themselves, the company offers three sets of question cards: Take 'n' Talk, Questions and Ancestors, and Chatter Box for Kids. Each box contains 175 questions on cards. Gather the family together and have each member randomly choose a card and read and answer it aloud. Questions include "What song title best describes your marriage?" "How has birth order affected your life?" and "What is one of the hardest things you've ever had to do?" Each box of cards is $9.50. The other product by ApronStrings is the Lifetime Series -- a set of four fill-in-the-blank books in which you can record your journey through life. The journals are "A Lifetime of Cars," "A Lifetime of Homes," "A Lifetime of Celebrations with Food," and "Lifetimes to Remember." Your kids and grandkids will get a kick out of reading about your life in the good old days. Each 168-page journal is $9.95. To order either ApronStrings product, call (410) 465-3860.
