Baldwin man gets 4 years in 2 drunken driving deaths

April 26, 1996

BEL AIR -- A 20-year-old Baldwin man who fatally struck two Fallston teen-agers last summer as he was driving on Route 152 was sentenced yesterday to four years in jail for homicide by motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Harford Circuit Judge Cypert O. Whitfill suspended all but four years after sentencing Christopher William Smith of the 3100 block of Wellington Way to consecutive five-year terms for each death in the incident that killed Christian James Leonard, 18, and Eric Christopher Rothgeb, who were walking on the shoulder of the road.

Smith will serve the sentence at the Harford County Detention Center. He also was given five years of supervised probation after his release and ordered to perform 400 hours of community service, including volunteer work with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, said Assistant State's Attorney Yolanda Curtin.
