City pair arrested in stash house raid

April 25, 1996|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

Police yesterday raided the West Baltimore stash house of a drug gang and seized more than $30,000 worth of suspected crack cocaine and arrested two people.

Members of the Southside Squad, which investigates drug crimes in three city police districts, executed a search warrant on an apartment in the 900 block of W. Fayette St. about 11: 20 a.m. and seized 26 ounces of suspected crack cocaine, a small amount of marijuana and a small amount of cash, said Sgt. Dorsey McVicker.

Squad members arrested Charles Crafton, 23, and Valerie Michele Henderson, 27, who live at the apartment, and charged each with being a drug kingpin, drug distribution, drug possession, conspiracy, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were being held at the Western District last night.

Police believe that Mr. Crafton is a lieutenant in the Westport Boys, a drug gang that operates in the Westport public housing complex in Southwest Baltimore, Sergeant McVicker said.
