Laurel woman attacked, robbed at apartment complex

April 24, 1996

A Laurel woman was attacked and robbed of her purse Monday evening by a man who had opened the door to her apartment complex for her, county police said.

The woman, 38, told police that she and her child were entering the lobby of the Horizon Square Apartments in the 3500 block of Route 198 in Laurel about 6: 45 p.m. When she tried to open the front door with two grocery bags in her arms, the man offered his assistance. But after she entered the lobby, the man grabbed her purse and the bags.

The man tried to spray the woman with a pepper spray before she gave up the purse and bags. He shoved her to the ground and drove away in a car that had been reported stolen in Prince George's County earlier in the day, police said.

Police describe the robber as a black male, in his late 20s, about 5 feet 8, 150 pounds, with short cropped hair and wearing military fatigues.

Construction equipment stolen from Route 3 site

Someone broke into a trailer last weekend and stole equipment from a construction site on Route 3 in Crofton, police said.

A site supervisor for L. M. Bradshaw Contracting Inc. in Ellicott City told police that he locked the trailer about 5 p.m. Friday. When he returned Monday about 8 a.m., he noticed that someone had broken the padlocks on the rear door.

Construction equipment totaling more than $5,000 was missing.
