Free vaccinations for children at Odenton Elementary School

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has scheduled a free immunization clinic from 3: 30 p.m. to 6: 30 p.m. Thursday at the Odenton Elementary School, 1290 Odenton Road, as part of a program to provide vaccinations for all county children.

No appointment is necessary, but parents should bring a copy of their child's immunization record.

Proof of immunizations is required for children to enroll in school. The deadline for submitting records is Aug. 26.

Children should have received a primary round of immunizations against diphtheria, tetanus polio, flu, hepatitis, measles, mumps, rubella and chicken pox by the time they are 2.

Students entering kindergarten through 10th grade in September will be required to have additional measles and mumps vaccines.

The Health Department encourages parents to consult their health care providers about having their children immunized.

Diet and nutrition program

Debra Brye, a representative of "Inches a Weigh," will conduct a diet and nutrition program from 10: 30 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. today at the O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road.

Math contest

Arundel Middle School's eighth-grade math team placed first among county schools entered in the Maryland Math League contest, a 30-minute test with 40 questions about arithmetic, geometry and algebra. The team also placed 18th out of 87 schools participating statewide.

Team members are Sarah Gearhart, Mark Gorman, Angie Gupta, Mike Martinee and Heather Wake.

The students on the seventh-grade team are Amie Gupta, Craig Haas, Diane Newcomer, Cliff Peterson and Jessica Preicy.

Student entertainment

Students from Arundel, Meade, and Old Mill high schools will perform at the 2nd Annual Business to Community Showcase sponsored by the West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce from 4 p.m. to 7: 30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the Odenton Fire Hall.

The entertainment will begin at 4: 30 p.m., with Nicole Sledz, violinist, from Arundel High School. The Meade in Motion Dance Company from Meade High School will perform at 5: 15 p.m., and the vocal ensemble from Old Mill High school will sing at 6 p.m.

Chamber members will put up displays of their products and services Admission is free. Exhibitor tables will be available through May 7. The cost is $60 for chamber members and $100 for non members. Businesses can reserve a table by calling the chamber office at 410-672-3422.
