Indians update

The last time the Orioles and Indians played, Cleveland was a mess, making errors, pitching poorly, hitting worse. Since then, the Indians have recovered, to no one's surprise, winning eight of their last nine, including a three-game sweep of Boston over the weekend. Kenny Lofton has improved his average from .179 to .323, Omar Vizquel from .125 to .255. Albert Belle ranks fourth in the AL in slugging percentage, at .707.

Key stats: Roberto Alomar has a .227 career average in Jacobs Field, Rafael Palmeiro .231. . . . Scott Erickson beat the Indians in the first series in a 14-4 blowout. . . . B. J. Surhoff has a career mark of .450 against Nagy. . . . Carlos Baerga has seven hits in 21 at-bats (.333) against Mussina.
