Winner named for vocational student award

Meghan C. Smith, a student at Westminster High School, has won a $500 savings bond as a Maryland state winner in the ServiStar and Coast to Coast All-American Vocational Student Awards Program.

The program was created by the company to promote vocational education.

State winners are evaluated by the National Tools for Tomorrow Advisory Board in Washington.

Ten national winners and up to 12 special merit honor students will be selected from the state winners.


Reese: Firefighters responded at 1: 09 p.m. Thursday for an auto fire at Sykesville and Deer Park roads. Units were out 27 minutes.

Pleasant Valley: Firefighters responded at 2: 21 p.m. for a fire alarm in the 1100 block of Pinch Valley Road. Units were out 59 minutes.

Reese: Firefighters responded at 7: 32 p.m. Thursday to a brush fire in the 2200 block of Cedar Hill Drive. Units were out 22 minutes.
