Club to hold flea market, auto show

ON MAY 11, the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) Boosters' Club is sponsoring a flea market, arts and crafts show with antique cars and trucks and a street rod show at Carroll County Career and Technology Center. The program is a fund-raiser to support the center and students participating in VICA activities.

A breakfast will launch the day with pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice, coffee and tea. Adults may eat for $4.50 and children for $2.25. Other food stands will be open until 3 p.m.

Vendors interested in taking part in the show will be provided a 20- by 20-foot space for $12, with setup time from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.

A registration fee of $4 will be charged for cars in the show, and a parking fee of $10 per car will be charged for those who have cars for sale. First- and second-place trophies will be given in each class.

Museum plans exhibits

Carroll County Farm Museum will feature two exhibits in the display cases next month.

A display titled "The Transient Whittler" will be on exhibit in the bowfront china closet in the dining room.

"The Transient Whittler" features tramp art from the museum's collection. These chip carved wooden pieces are considered to be a type of folk art. The items were made mostly from old cigar boxes. Along with examples of boxes, items featured in this display will include picture frames, an inkwell, a sewing box and a walking stick.

Another exhibit, titled "Breaking the Silence," will feature a collection of early antique phonographs and record memorabilia from the private collection of Jim and Dolly Norris of Hampstead. Both exhibits will run through the end of May.

Teachers to be honored

The seventh annual Carroll County Outstanding Teacher Awards Banquet will be held at 6: 30 p.m. May 6 at Wilhelm Ltd. Caterers in Westminster. The purpose of the award, sponsored by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce and Wilhelm Ltd. Caterers, is to honor teachers who are nominated by students, parents, educators and the public.
