25 years ago The Anne Arundel County zoning hearing officer has rejected a request by the Levitt Corp. for permission to build 496 garden apartments in Crofton at the intersection of Routes 3 and 450 now zoned "light commercial." -- The Sun, March 4, 1971.

Anne Arundel County's Board of Social Services criticized Gov. Marvin Mandel's budget as "grossly inadequate" to meet the needs of welfare recipients. A family of four now receives $2,200 a year from the county. -- The Sun, March 16, 1971.

In a memo to Anne Arundel County office workers, Personnel Officer Ronald A. Leahy asked that "ladies in the county service refrain from wearing so-called 'hot pants' or 'knickers' during duty hours." -- The Sun, March 24, 1971.
