Five teens charged with drug possession

One adult and four minors were charged with drug possession Thursday night after Howard County drug detectives in Columbia stopped and searched their vehicle, police said.

Juan Eugene McGill, 18, of the 6300 block of Loring Drive in Columbia's Owen Brown village and two 16-year-old males from Columbia were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a person under 21, police said.

Another 16-year-old male from Columbia was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

A 16-year-old female from Columbia was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by a person under 21 and possession of tobacco by a person under 18, police said.

A Howard County District Court commissioner released Mr. McGill on an unsecured bond and the four minors were released into the custody of their parents, police said.

About 11: 30 p.m. Thursday, detectives from the Street Drug Section were in Columbia's Oakland Mills village near the intersection of Encounter Row and Stevens Forest Road investigating suspected drug activity there, police said.

When they saw possible drug use and exchanges near a car, officers stopped and searched the vehicle and questioned the occupants, police said.

The occupants were arrested after officers confiscated four small plastic bags filled with suspected marijuana, two cigars repacked with marijuana, bags used to pack drugs and four 40-ounce bottles of malt liquor from the vehicle, police said.
