1992 Guenoc Petite Sirah, North Coast ($13)

Psssst! Want a hint? Some of the best values coming out of California are being made from the oft-maligned petite sirah grape. This is a great example from a winery that's been on a roll. It's a wonderfully chunky red that is overstuffed with flavors of blackberry, blackcurrant and herbs. It's also much smoother than most examples of this sometimes coarse grape. This long, rich, meaty, complex wine should age beautifully for five years from now, but don't hesitate to enjoy it now.
