The fun is over at the Discovery Zone FunCenter in North Baltimore.

Discovery Zone Inc., the Fort Lauderdale, Va.-based chain of indoor children's play centers, announced yesterday that it closed its facility at 6311 York Road on Sunday.

The chain, which announced last month that it would file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, warned at the time that it would soon close unprofitable locations.

Discovery Zone said its locations in Golden Ring, Catonsville and Glen Burnie will remain open. The company said it has contacted customers to reschedule parties at nearby centers and to offer refunds.

The company said customers could call its toll-free line to call for information on rescheduling and refunds at 1-800-282-4386.

The nation's largest chain of indoor children's centers has struggled to recover from an acquisition binge that left it with $230 million in bank debt and subordinated debentures.

The centers include play zones replete with tubes, slides, ball bins and trampolines.

Discovery Zone has not turned a profit since 1993.
