2 Columbia women charged with stealing clothing

County police arrested two Columbia women Saturday on charges of stealing more than $2,000 worth of clothing from Macy's department store in Marley Station mall.

Ruby Blondina Greene, 42, of the 5400 block of Ring Dove Lane and Marian Olivia Johnson, 43, of the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road were charged with felony theft.

Officer Peter Scarpetta went to the store shortly before 1 p.m., after he heard Macy's security guards on the police radio talking about two women stuffing clothing in Macy's bags and walking out without paying.

When he arrived in the parking lot, he saw a woman drive off in a 1983 Ford Thunderbird and followed until Macy's guards gave him a description, police said, When Officer Scarpetta stopped the car and checked the woman's Macy's bags, he found one bag contained hangers but another was full of clothing, police said. The woman could not produce a receipt, police said.

The woman later said a friend stole the items, police said. Another officer found a woman outside Macy's with a purse and Macy's bag stuffed with merchandise, police said.

The stolen goods were worth $2,071.95, police said.
