April 14, 1996|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

Valid Goddess won the $55,575 Primonetta Stakes by a nose over Broad Smile yesterday at Pimlico Race Course after a bump the start that turned out to help her cause.

A Florida horse with early speed in her last start, Valid Goddess was bumped at the start and unable to battle early with the speedy favorite, Pent Up Kiss.

But Pent Up Kiss got away slowly aboard jockey Luis Diaz.

Word O' Ransom set the pace until the late stretch, where Valid Goddess and Broad Smile charged past to get the top two spots.

Valid Goddess, owned by Sunnymeade Farm, was timed for six furlongs in 1 minute, 10 3/5 seconds. She paid $29, $11 and $9. Broad Smith paid $4.60 and $3.60. Word O' Ransom paid $5.60 to show.
